Dr. Ion Cretu is appointed as a Gastroenterology Consultant in Naas Hospital since January 2015. He graduated from State Medical University in Republic of Moldova in 1998 and continued his postgraduate training in UK/Ireland from 2003 – 2013 and completed his Specialist Registration training in Gastroenterology/Hepatology in 2013, and subsequently an advanced endoscopy intensive year in Mater Hospital, Dublin. He has a specialist interest in advanced endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease ,IBS and nutrition. He has a diploma in Management and Leadership in Healthcare awarded by Royal College of Surgeons in 2012.

Specialists in gastroenterology and hepatology treat people with diseases and disorders of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon.
Consultation will include a set of blood tests and a bedside abdominal and/or bowel ultrasound whenever indicated. Dr Cretu is a member of IBUS (intestinal bowel ultrasound society) and has completed training in bowel ultrasound (Copenhagen, Lunenburg(Germany) and Milan). He is one of the few Gastroenterologist in Ireland that would perform a bowel ultrasound which is a non invasive assessment of the small and large bowel.
Dr Cretu manages a large cohort of IBD patients in a busy gastroenterology department which provides clinics, IV biologic infusions, Iron infusions, IBD nurse service, drug monitoring, bowel ultrasound,endoscopy and radiological assessment and dietician input.
